1. Climate Goals and Energy Efficiency

The operation of digital infrastructure is energy-intensive. SCANDIC COIN has set ambitious goals:

  • Net-Zero Scope 1 & 2 by 2027: We will cover all direct and indirect energy consumption with renewable energy and offset remaining emissions. Our Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) target is ≤ 1.25.
  • Net-Zero Scope 3 by 2030/2035: We work with suppliers to reduce emissions in the upstream supply chain (hardware production, logistics). We prioritize suppliers with clear climate goals and environmental certifications.
  • Transparency: We calculate energy consumption and CO₂ emissions at rack and customer level. These data are published in dashboards and reports, allowing clients to understand the climate impact of their services.
  • Renewable Energy: Our infrastructure is powered entirely by renewable energy. We invest in solar systems, battery storage, and certified green electricity. Surplus waste heat is reused for neighboring buildings.
  • Efficient Hardware and Software: We deploy energy-efficient servers, GPUs, and TPUs. Virtualization and containerization maximize utilization. Software optimization reduces idle power usage.

2. Data Protection and Information Security

Sustainability includes the protection of personal and business data. All data are subject to strict data protection rules (GDPR, PDPL). We implement privacy-by-design and privacy-by-default principles across all products and services, conduct regular Data Protection Impact Assessments, and operate a zero-trust architecture with strong encryption as well as SIEM/SOAR systems. Responsible data processing is a key prerequisite for maintaining customer trust and using resources efficiently. Secure processes also help avoid energy waste caused by inefficient or redundant data transfers.

3. Supply Chain and Human Rights

The SCANDIC COIN supply chain spans semiconductor manufacturers and server producers to energy, cooling, logistics, and recycling providers. We comply with the German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) and the EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD):

  • Supplier Code of Conduct: Our contractors are required to uphold labor standards, pay fair wages, prohibit child and forced labor, and protect the environment.
  • Risk Assessments: We identify high-risk areas—such as raw material sourcing (rare earths, metals), component manufacturing, and electronic waste disposal—and conduct audits.
  • Grievance Mechanisms: An anonymous reporting channel is available to employees, suppliers, and customers to report human rights or environmental violations. Reports are investigated and actions taken.
  • Circular Economy: We promote hardware reuse and recycling. End-of-life devices are processed by certified recyclers, and modular systems are used to extend upgrade cycles.

4. AI Ethics and Media Ethics

SCANDIC COIN uses AI-driven systems to optimize operations and energy efficiency. These systems follow the SCANDIC GROUP AI Ethics Guidelines:

  • Transparency & Explainability: AI-driven analyses (e.g., predictive maintenance, load forecasting) are clearly identified to customers, and explanations are provided on how recommendations are generated.
  • Fairness & Inclusion: Algorithms are reviewed for bias. No customer is to be disadvantaged based on origin, size, or sector.
  • Security & Robustness: AI systems are hardened against manipulation (prompt injection, adversarial attacks) and regularly audited.
  • Data Protection: Training data are used only in compliance with GDPR and PDPL; data are anonymized or pseudonymized where possible.

In the media sector of the SCANDIC GROUP, editorial independence, fact-checking, and advertising transparency apply. AI-generated content is labeled, and users have the right to request human contact.

5. Governance and Compliance

At management level, an ESG Committee oversees climate, human rights, data/AI, and social issues. A policy library includes the Code of Conduct, Supplier Code, Environmental Policy, Human Rights Policy, Modern Slavery Statement, and Disclosure Guidelines. Our ESG risk inventory identifies potential sustainability risks across all business areas. Heatmaps and thresholds support governance. Reporting obligations are fulfilled through an annual ESG Report and separate CO₂ reports.

6. Environment and Climate in the Data Center

SCANDIC COIN relies on data centers powered by renewable energy and following a zero-waste concept:

  • Heat Recovery: Waste heat is reused for nearby buildings or district heating networks. Cooling water is recycled and treated.
  • Efficient Cooling: We employ adiabatic cooling, free cooling, and hot/cold aisle containment to minimize energy consumption.
  • Modularity: Our infrastructure is modular, adaptable to demand, and prevents unnecessary overcapacity.
  • Sustainable Procurement: We purchase hardware and building materials with environmental certifications (e.g., FSC, Energy Star) and monitor raw material sourcing.
  • Waste Management: Electronic waste, batteries, and refrigerants are properly recycled. Office waste is separated, and paper use is reduced through digital workflows.

7. Employees and Work Culture

Our employees are key to sustainable transformation. SCANDIC COIN promotes diversity, equality, and inclusion. Equal pay reviews, flexible working models, and programs supporting physical and mental health are integral to our culture. Regular training on compliance, human rights, data protection, sustainability, and AI ethics reinforces awareness of responsible conduct. We promote internal mobility and offer training programs focused on future technologies.

8. Stakeholder Dialogue and Social Contribution

We maintain open dialogue with customers, suppliers, employees, authorities, and civil society. Feedback is incorporated into the ongoing development of our sustainability strategy. SCANDIC COIN supports educational and charitable projects, promotes digital inclusion, and participates in industry associations advocating sustainable digitization. Our responsibility goes beyond providing a utility token — we are committed to a greener IT future and a resilient digital society.
